AEDC's Commitment: Through real estate development, business development and the promotion of entrepreneurship we will improve the quality of life, the value of property and increase the number of opportunities available to the residents and business owners of the Anacostia/East of the River.

Company Profile:

Founded in 1969 as a business development assistance agency, AEDC was reorganized as a CDC under Title VII of the amended 1964 Economic Opportunity Act (EOA) in 1975. Since that time, AEDC has pursued a multifaceted economic development program designed to help strengthen the economic base of the Anacostia/East of the River Community. To date, the program has placed major emphasis on housing rehabilitation, commercial revitalization (including small/minority business assistance) and venture development.

Throughout the years, AEDC has developed single and multi-family housing, neighborhood retail office projects and a shopping center to serve residents who live east of the Anacostia River in Washington DC.

Our Mission:

It is the stated mission of the Anacostia Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) to improve the quality-of-life circumstances of District of Columbia residents, specifically residents of the Anacostia and East of the River neighborhoods, by the subscription to, and utilization of, the following six (6) meaningful objectives:

COORDINATE activities with other local citizen groups, community organizations and institutions to improve community facilities and public services.
PURSUE the development of opportunities which will enable the AEDC to address the above stated objectives, and to identify and undertake activities that will allow the AEDC to continue to move toward self- sufficient and self-sustaining operations.
